National Apprenticeship Week 2018: Joe

7th March 2018 in Just for fun

Our second instalment for National Apprenticeship Week 2018 comes from our Graphic Designer, Joe! Joe took part in the Business Admin Level 2 apprenticeship alongside Jake, from June 2016 to June 2017 and has now joined our in-house design team. Here we ask Joe about his apprenticeship with Everything Branded UK  and how it benefited him and his career.

What made you choose to take part in an apprenticeship?

As a visual designer, the opportunity of an apprenticeship provided me with a direct route into the industry without the cost of education fees and I felt the hands-on experience would aid the growth of my skill set, whilst providing me with a taste for the industry.

Why did you choose to do your apprenticeship at EverythingBranded?

At the time I became an apprentice I had been for a few interviews at different job roles across Leicester. When I arrived at the interview for the apprenticeship, I saw a small business that could grow and develop to what it has become today, and I think being a part of that really influenced my decision to get on board. Also, the business itself created a unique job role that required efficiency under pressure and I felt this would teach me a lot.

What did you enjoy most about your apprenticeship?

Firstly, the atmosphere, during my course we were in this small office building with the whole sales floor and design team on one floor upstairs. The mix between work and casual atmosphere really helped me to feel like I fit into the team well. Secondly, when I first started and was first learning the ropes of the job I was fully immersed in the role, so I learnt a lot very quickly.

Were you given a lot of support and guidance during your apprenticeship?

As the subject of my apprenticeship was quite different from my job role I received a lot of support both from my apprenticeship tutor, who helped and guided me through every part of my coursework that I did not understand and the staff in the office at the time.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in taking the path of an apprenticeship?

From my personal experience apprenticeships are a great path to choose, as they provide hands-on experience in an industry or job role that fits you. They're a great way to develop skills and grow as a person whilst earning.
